Generally I charge on a per hour basis, the minimum charge being £40 + VAT for the first hour. As soon as I determine that a significant task will be required I will describe what the problem is, how to solve it and what it will cost. You can then choose to go ahead or pay the charge for the investigation and leave it at that.

My rate for a whole day is £250 + VAT.

The server is configured to send it's logs to me. I'll review the logs every day and investigate anything that looks threatening. This is usually rare. When there is something I'll send you an email describing the problem and the solution (which may involve some work).

I charge £30 + VAT per month for this (£1 per day essentially).

This is a once a month service to dial in to your server and check the updates. This would consist of reviewing what updates are available and assessing (as far as possible) whether you should deploy them or not. If so I'll deploy them and then reboot the server the next night (it takes 24 hours for the updates to feed through) if required.

The charge for this is £10 per month + VAT.
